Off-Broadway, Peter has extensive credits for resident companies such as Manhattan Theater Club, Lincoln Center Theater, The Roundabout, The Public (both downtown and at the Delacorte in Central Park), The New Group, Playwright's Horizon's, 2nd/Stage, Classic Stage Company, Signature Theater, The Vineyard, as well as 20 Encores! concerts at City Center. Productions include How to Transcend a Happy Marriage, Dada Woof Papa Hot, Grey Gardens, Violet, The Paris Letter, Death Defying Acts, My Old Lady, The Monogamist, Twelve Drems, Song of Singapore, Grandchild of Kings.

In opera, he has designed productions at The Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Los Angeles Music Center Opera, San Francisco Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Seattle Opera, Opera Theater of St. Louis.  Abroad, Royal Opera Covent Garden, Scottish Opera, Opera/North, The Edinburgh Festival, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, L'Arena di Verona, La Fenice, Teatrolirico di Cagliari, OperBonn, Teatro Sao Carlos Lisbon, Nissei Theater Tokyo.

For the film Birdman, Peter designed the lighting for the scenes shot on stage at the St. James Theatre in New York.
